There are a number of ferry options depending upon whereabouts you are traveling from within the UK.
We have put together a list using the experience from previous visitors to Chatel, but this is by no means exhaustive and we’d welcome any additions you know about.
A favourite option for many of our northern friends is Hull – Rotterdam operated by P&O Ferries, followed by a very scenic drive down through Holland, Germany and Switzerland – then the final 2 miles through France to Chatel!
While on the face of it it the individual cost of the ferry might be more expensive, by the time you have calculated in the extra mileage, a possible overnight stop and the other killer of the French motorway tolls, you will most likely find the cost roughly the same.
For those traveling from the more southerly points in the UK the inexpensive option and locality of the Dover – Calais route almost make this
a no-brainer. It also gives you a selection of carriers, either P&O Ferries or Seafrance, although the frequency of the P&O line brings a bit more flexibilty on your return leg should you encounter, heaven forbid, any problems.
Obviously not too dissimilar to the Dover – Calais route but just giving you the option of a further carrier, Norfolk Line, with a slightly different start and finish point to your European leg. This could be a good alternative at peak holiday periods.
